As part of its efforts towards strengthening the capacity of communities to monitor, report and take action against corruption, maladministration and bad governance, the Anti-Corruption Trust of Southern Africa has set up additional Anti-Corruption Monitoring Voluntary Action in Bulawayo, Beitbridge, Victoria Falls, Mutare, Harare and Chinhoyi.
The groups were trained from the 20th to the 24th of February 2017 at Midlands Hotel in Gweru. Furthermore, sector specific groups were set up in the transport, business and mining sector, where corruption is rampant.
Mr. Alouis Munyaradzi Chaumba, the Regional Coordinator urged all stakeholders to support government efforts towards the eradication of the scourge of corruption. “I strongly urge almost everyone to play an active role in fighting corruption. Please call the Anti-Corruption Trust of Southern Africa for assistance on how you could be part of the existing groups. You are also welcome to set up your own community group. However, please contact us for advice on how to do this” he says.
The Anti-Corruption Trust of Southern Africa had similar groups in the Midlands and Masvingo Provinces and these have significantly helped in increasing the number of reported cases and the deterrence against corruption. These efforts are part of the organisation’s activities towards empowering communities to monitor, report and take action against corruption. The project is supported by the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI)
