Electoral reform demands to be handed over to Parliamentary committee Saturday 29 October 2016:
As Community Youth Development Trust, we believe that for Zimbabwe to address youth apathy the forthcoming election there is need to create a free and fair environment by introducing new electoral reforms.
We therefore propose that the following issues should be encompassed in the Zimbabwe’s Electoral law:
- The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) should be totally independent free from party politics
- Open more space for stakeholders in Voter Education other than ZEC
- Reviewing provisions relating to Voters Registration and the Voters’ Roll to ensure they enhance the credibility of Zimbabwean elections
- Extending the franchise and the Right to Vote to all citizens of Zimbabwe, wherever they may be i.e. Diaspora
- Reconstituting the Electoral Court in compliance with the Constitution
- Ensure the invitation of Election Observers as an exclusive function of the body entrusted with the conduct of the polls
- Enhancing the role of ZEC in electoral boundary Delimitation
