Missing activist, Itai Dzamara was today remembered in style as scores of activists and members of civic society organizations gathered at Africa Unit Square commemorating 17 months after the pro-democracy activist, was abducted by unknown assailants in Harare.
The colorful event was also attended by a number of children who offered members of the Republic Police flowers and cakes highlighting their love for the police.
Addressing activists, Patson Dzamara, brother of the missing activist said they gathered to show the police that love still exists.
“We are gathered here as we remember the life of Itai Dzamara. We all know who took him as members of the police used to beat him here every day.
“Now as we remember Itai here, we want to show the police that love is what moulds us, we will win this battle through love, so today we want to give them flowers to show love as we say no to police brutality,” said Dzamara.
Speaking at the same gathering, National Vendors Union Zimbabwe chairperson, Mr Sten Zvorwadza challenged the police to take off their uniforms and join the toiling masses in overthrowing the Mugabe led regime which he says is responsible.
“As we remember Itai today, I am saying to the police, join the people now to fight against Mugabe and let us remember the work of Itai Dzamara who went missing while advocating for everyone’s freedom,” said Zvorwadza.
