The Combined Harare Residents Association (CHRA) has noted efforts by the Harare City Council to hire substantive Directors in some of the local authority’s key departments that include Finance, Housing and Community Services, Water as well as the Human Capital Department.
Information at hand indicates that the process of interviewing potential candidates started early January 2017.
As a representative body of residents in Harare, CHRA is of the firm view that the appointment of the new directors should serve as an opportunity for the City of Harare to hire professional and competent personnel with the capacity to deliver.
Competent individuals are key in helping the City of Harare achieve its vision of a world class city by 2025 hence the need to avoid recycling garbage in the form of incompetent individuals who for the past years have failed to prove their competence.
CHRA believes that the selection process of the new directors must be inclusive, transparent and very much professional to enable the City of Harare to hire competent personnel
This therefore entails that individuals who have been fingered in corrupt activities before should not be entitled to hold public office and must be disqualified from the selection process.
As CHRA, we believe that the City of Harare needs competent and innovative people with fresh ideas on how to turn around the fortunes of the local authority.
We further call upon the relevant authorities to avoid appointments on partisan basis as this has largely compromised efficiency at the Harare City Council.
Competency and professionalism is key for effective service delivery hence our call to authorities to ensure that deserving candidates are hired.
