Ishmael Kauzani released on bail as other activists endure yet another weekend behind bars

MAGISTRATE Vongai Muchuchuti on Friday 16 September 2016 released Ishmael Kauzani who was arrested and charged with public violence in connection with the demonstration against police brutality which took place last month on $50 bail.

Ishmael who is being represented by ZLHR board member Andrew Makoni was ordered to surrender his passport, report to the Harare Central Police Stations Law and order section every Monday and Friday and not interfere with State witnesses as part of his bail conditions.

However, Petros Sokole and others as well as Bulawayo MDC-T youth secretary Kunashe Muchemwa who were arrested and charged with public violence over the National Electoral Reform Agenda (NERA) and Police Brutality demonstrations respectively; will have to endure another weekend behind bars after the High Court once again postponed their bail appeal hearing to Tuesday 20 September 2016.

The High Court also postponed to Monday 19 September 2016, the bail hearing of Tinotenda Mhungu and others who were also arrested and charged with public violence over demonstrations last month.

They are being represented by ZLHR lawyers Jeremiah Bamu and Trust Maanda.

" It was good and permissible when the flag since 1980 was carried by every Harry and Tom to Rufaro Stadium or National Sports Stadium to support Zimbabwe's national team the Warriors. It is good and permissible when the flag is carried about by women and children flocking to the airport to routinely receive the President from his many foreign travels. It is good and permissible if the flag is mutilated and redesigned on the party regalia of the country's self-acclaimed LIFE RULING SINGLE PARTY. It is now bad and not permissible when it is carried by those who demand that the sacrifices of those who lost their lives and years in the liberation struggle be respected by those in power through fighting corruption; practising good governance; public accountability by bringing to book those who are responsible for the missing $15 billion diamond revenues; fiscal austerity by cutting down on the many annual trips the President embarks on; by cutting on extravagance through avoiding the purchase of expensive Range Rovers when the govt is very broke to the point of asking for financial help from those it says are destabilising the economy and country."
